Slamdance Presents Gets to First Base with Claire Carré’s “Embers”

Published on

Considered a film festival anomaly, Slamdance Presents are plucking from their own film festival in landing the distribution rights to their closing film. Claire Carré’s Embers will be released at ArcLight Hollywood on August 5th while The Orchard will handle VOD during the same week as its theatrical play. Starring Jason Ritter and Iva Gocheva, the sci-fi film has landed in several genre fests (Fantasia will unveil it in July), had its world preem at the Oldenburg International Film Festival and has nabbed wins at the New Orleans, Newport Beach and Sarasota Film Festivals.

Gist: Written by Claire Carré & Charles Spano, after a global neurological epidemic, those who remain search for meaning and connection in a world without memory. Five interwoven stories each explore a different facet of life without memory in a future that has no past.

Worth Noting: In her very first professional creds, Carré was an assistant to Patty Jenkins on Monster.

Do We Care?: Nominated for Gotham Awards’ Spotlight on Women Filmmakers ‘Live the Dream’ Grant, IndieWIRE’s Eric Kohn has been one among many championing this film calling it “an elegant, brooding drama with a sprawling international cast, the movie presents its haunting premise with barely any explanation, leaving viewers to steadily make sense of the chaos along with the confused protagonists.”
