Video Interview: Jimmy Wan & Hon Siu Ching – Zero to Hero
Published on
Hong Kong’s official submission for the ‘Best International Feature’ category at the 94th Academy Awards is Jimmy Wan‘s Zero to Hero, a biopic on Hong Kong Paralympic sprinter So Wa Wai which premiered at the 2021 Fast East Film Festival in Udine, Italy and has become the top-grossing local movie in Hong Kong for 2021. In anticipation of For Your Consideration screenings, I had the opportunity to converse with director Jimmy Wan and one of the real life subjects in his film, Hon Siu Ching (aka Wonder Mom), who is portrayed by actor/producer Sandra Ng in the film. Wan discusses the origins of his first solo directorial feature, working with Hong Kong legend Sandra Ng, as well as the casting and training of his lead star Leung Cheung-hang.
