Men with/out Guns: Robert Machoian Completing His “Characters in Desperation” Trilogy

We recently had the chance to speak to filmmaker Robert Machoian directly after the world premiere Tribeca Film Festival screening of his fifth feature film, The Integrity of Joseph Chambers. In that conversation we learned some exciting news — Machoian is currently writing what will loosely be a third chapter in a thematic trilogy that began with his masterwork, The Killing of Two Lovers (review). What could eventually be coined as a “characters in desperation” films this latest film would focus on another domestic situation. Unlike Machoian’s previous pair, this portrait is more equal footing — a husband and wife in a longterm relationship. Actor/producer Clayne Crawford and Sound Designer Peter Albrechtsen could potentially return.
Eric Lavallée is the founder, CEO, editor-in-chief, film journalist and critic at IONCINEMA.com (founded in 2000). Eric is a regular at Sundance, Cannes and TIFF. He has a BFA in Film Studies at the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema. In 2013 he served as a Narrative Competition Jury Member at the SXSW Film Festival. He was an associate producer on Mark Jackson's This Teacher (2018 LA Film Festival, 2018 BFI London). In 2022 he served as a New Flesh Comp for Best First Feature at the 2022 Fantasia Intl.
